Oakridge Park is a multi-purpose site in a new residential area of Vancouver (CA). Given a rather long and narrow play space where to fit a striking playground, it was time to get creative.

Made almost entirely of wood, the playground features a set of undulating, ribbon-like sculptures that capitalise on the longitudinal aspect of the space. These sinuous structures naturally direct the flow of play, offering a progressive experience of increasing challenge for younger and older kids alike.

Other features populating the site are a small hut in the shape of a spiral, wooden logs,  large slides and a series of big hang-out nets. They offer a wide variety of extra opportunities for social, sensory and imaginative play between children of different abilities.

The surface is designed to integrate graphically with the sculptures, giving the impression of colour rising into the air and spilling back onto the ground. This graphically highlights the continuity of the play experience, vibrantly extending the theme.

Multiple routes of travel mean multiple choices, opening up a wealth of possibilities through holes, gaps and climbing paths while creating pockets of less active play within the same structure.

A natural log play arrangement completes a challenging circuit that engages all the muscles and enables kids to travel from one end to the other without touching the ground!

Built in Canada using sustainably sourced wood as a primary material, it is renewable, recyclable, and has a low carbon footprint. The types of wood used, robinia and accoya™, are particularly well suited for long-term outdoor use.

Proudly designed at Earthscape Play to the utmost standards of quality craftsmanship and attention to detail, this iconic structure matches the style and character of this park that will open at the end of 2024.
