Long-life lovers of small wooden things, we designed and made a set of irresistible miniatures with Amsterdam as a protagonist. Made from discarded cherry and walnut wood, the set represents some iconic buildings of Golden Age Amsterdam, such as the Rijksmuseum and the Royal Palace, together with the medieval and more contemporary structures that shape Amsterdam’s skyline. A challenge from the technical perspective, starting with the abstraction and simplification of the ultra-detailed buildings and finishing with the production of the small three-dimensional pieces using a 3 axis CNC milling machine. A stylish alternative to the ubiquitous sleazy souvenirs.
Under development in collaboration with Marjolein Ceulen and Alex Baak.
